December derived its name from the Latin word “Decem” meaning ten (10). According to the old Roman calendar, it was the 10th month. This was before they dedicated their new first month to January moving December to the position of being the 12th month though it maintained its name as 10th month. According to the Biblical calendar, 1st of Kislev 5781 began on the 17th November 2020. The 29th of Kislev 5781 is December 15, 2020. The 1st of Tevet 5780 is December 16, 2020.

This month in the northern hemisphere we are in a hibernating season when there is little productivity. While in the southern hemisphere people are going for summer vacation and shutting down for the festive season, in the northern hemisphere they are going into hibernation at the gates of the winter season.
