The Month of May is approximately equivalent to the third (3^rd) Jewish sacred Calendar month called SIVAN. The word Sivan is probably of Persian origin and it means “their covering” May is also the ninth 9^th month in the Jewish civil calendar and the fifth 5^th month of the Gregorian calendar. It is named after the Roman goddess, MAIA.

The worship of Mercury (to whom the planet is dedicated to) was associated with the worship of the Roman goddess Maia who is identified as his mother by her association with the Greek goddess Maia – mother of Hermes. Both Mercury and Maia were honoured in pagan festivals on May l5^th the dedication day of the Temple of Mercury on the Aventine (built around 500 BC).

The Romans believed that MERCURY was the god of merchandise and merchants, and is commonly identified with the Greek HERMES – the fleet-footed messenger of the gods.

In classical mythology, Maia is given to one of the group of stars of the constellation Pleiades. The near dawn rising of Pleiades in spring in the Northern Hemisphere, marked from ancient times the opening of sea faring and farming seasons.

In medieval and modern Europe, 1^st May was a day of traditional springtime celebration which starts off with agricultural rituals. Such rites were intended to ensure fertility to the crops, cattle and human beings. Today 1^st May or May day is celebrated as the international Labour Day.

This month the day of Pentecost or Feast of Weeks will fall on the 23^rd May.

PRAYING INTO THE MONTH

The times and seasons were created by God. When the Christian does not take responsibility for these seasons, the devil will always find a counterfeit as in the above mythologies. Take responsibility for this month and pray through these significant events: Program the following prayers into the womb of every day of this month:

• Declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ over each day of this month. Each day that makes up this month is the day of the Lord and not the day of any other god or being (Psa 118:24).
• Command the heavens and all creation to praise God during this month and obey only the voice of the blood of Jesus Christ. (Ps 19:1-6)
• Command the planet Mercury which is prominent in this month, to praise the Lord its Creator and reject every adoration directed toward it on 15^th (Ps 148:3)
• Enforce the reconciliation of all creation to the Lord. Command everything to praise the Lord and do His bidding this month. (Ps 148)
• Celebrate God the Creator of the heavens and of the earth who gives fertility to all plants, animals and human beings. It is His decree that all creation should bring forth after its kind and not any other demon-god. (Gen 1:11-12,22,28, 8:22).
• Declare that your fruitfulness is from the Lord and not from any other gods. Disconnect yourself from any dedications made to goddess Maia concerning all round fruitfulness in your life, family, occupation, church and nation.
• Pray that this month, God will judge all the gods in whose honour such festivals are held within this season. (Isa. 19:1; Jer. 10:11-13)
• Dedicate the first day of this month to the kingship of Jesus Christ. Renounce all other dedications made ignorantly or knowingly as people go out to celebrate the traditional May day.
• May Day was considered as International Labour Day by the International Socialist Congress in 1889, and has since become the occasion for important political demonstrations.
• Pray that you shall not labour in vain in this season. You shall labour to enter into God’s rest. Pray that you shall work in Sabbath rest from this time forth. (Heb 4:11)
• Disconnect yourself from any prosperity that comes from the demon gods. Proclaim that it is God who will make you to profit from your labours, not Mercury/Hermes(Is 48:17, Deut 8:18)
• Pray that this month you will drink your portion from the river of life. Pray that the river will flow over every part of your life, work of your hands.
• Pray that the River of life will flow and bring life to every sector of society in your nation; from family to the church, government economy, education system, media, arts, sports and culture. Pray for Jubilee resurrection of those things which seemed to have died. (Rev 22:1, Eze 47:1-10, Ps 46:4-7)
• Pray that the Lord will release the fruit of the Tree of life for this month. Also pray that the leaves for the healing allocated for this month be released to you. Pray these for the family, the work of your hands, the church and nation. (Rev 22:2, Eze 47:12)
• This is the 3^rd month and 9th Sivan in the Jewish sacred and civil Calendars. Pray that God will cause to be released the original angels in charge of this month and the angels prepared for this month in line with Rev. 9:15-16 will be released to minister to you, your family, business, church and nation 1 Chron. 27:1.
• As the 3^rd Month, 3 represents strength of unity. A three fold cord which cannot be easily broken (Ecc 4:11-12). In this month of Pentecost, pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the church and a reawakening of the desire for the church of Christ in the nation to unite. Pray for unity among Christian leaders with regard to matters that concern the nation.
• As the 5^th month in Gregorian calendar; 5 signifies grace – unmerited favor. This is a jubilee season – the year of the Lord’s favor. Pray that God will release His favor in double measure in this season over your life, the work of your hands, the family, the church and nation especially in areas where you really do not deserve it. Ask that by His favor He will promote you from where you are spiritually, physically, financially, healthwise, in relationships to a place of supernatural levels.
• As the 9^th month; 9 is a number for judgments; and of birthing. Pray that in this season of jubilee which is the year of the vengeance of our Lord, and this season especially, the Lord will arise and bring judgment against those who tend to feel they are above the law in your society. Pray that as His judgments come upon the earth, upon the hostile and arrogant, they shall learn righteousness (Psa 26:9)
• Pray that in this season of birthing; the church of Christ will bring forth the purposes of God, an increased level of evangelism and soul winning, and increased intercession over territories.
